Haringey has four main street gang allegiances of which the largest is the Tottenham Mandem from N15/N17, this is followed by the Wood Green MOB in N22 and Hornsey Grey Gang in N8. Then there are the North London Somalians whose area borders the postal areas of N8/N15/N22. Further to this there are Turkish and Kurdish groups who align more closely with organised firms. In Haringey the prominent one of these are the Tottenham Boys who despite the name occupy much of Haringey and neighbouring Enfield boroughs.

Tottenham Mandem are the oldest gang in the area and have been in existence over three decades. They have a fierce local rivalry with the Wood Green MOB and historic rivalry with the original Hackney Boys from E5/E8. Despite having a one-time alliance with the Edmonton Firm the current generation of Edmonton gangs (Shankstarz, YDA in particular) have allied with Wood Green MOB against Tottenham. Until recent times (2008) Wood Green and Hornsey were also allies however after a long history together the younger generation have broken the link.
NORTH LONDON SOMALIS hit the headlines in 2006 Mahir Osman was murdered after an alleged feud between two Somali gangs which began after an argument at club Eros in Enfield. The two gangs were the Centric Crew from Camden and North London Somalians, predominantly from Duccets Common area but with members from all over Haringey and Enfield boroughs.
Mahir was stabbed to death during an attack by 40 youths. CCTV showed the main suspect then aged 16 on the outside of a group who had surrounded Mahir kicking him whilst he lay on the ground. The gang responsible for the murder which occurred in Camden were the North London Somalians.
The attack was a revenge attack although Mahir himself was unknown to be gang involved and the killer claimed he was not a member of any gang and appealed submitting an inter alia. The whole incident was recorded on CCTV and the actual stabbing took only a few seconds. There was a total of some 40 young men who, on the prosecution's case, were part of the attacking gang or group.
Since the incident there has been a volatile relationship between Camden and Haringey Somali’s ever since.
Edmonton, situated in the London Borough of Enfield, has had a presence of street gangs for over a decade. One of the most infamous gang generals to come from the area was Anthony "blue" Bourne (who headed the Edmonton Firm that later became the Edmonton Mandem). During his reign Edmonton was fairly unified across N9/N18 and were also aligned with Tottenham Mandem up until the early 2000's.
Following the imprisonment of older members and large scale regeneration around Edmonton Green (which saw the demolition of some large blocks and the introduction of new estates at Victoria Road and Montagu Road) gang members were spread across the borough through re-housing and smaller cliques began to appear across Edmonton. With this conflict among the different areas of N9/N18 arose and the unity broke down somewhat.
Following the fall out between Edmonton, largely N9, with the Shankstarz (who are the current older generation) and NPK (in Tottenham) tensions became complicated in Edmonton between N9/N18 because certain N18 cliques were still associating with Tottenham. The Red Brick Crew from the Silver Street area of N18 fell out with the Edmonton Mandem from east of Pymmes Park. In more recent times, since 2008, the Shankstarz fell out with what is now known as the Grey Gang after the manslaughter of Iyke Nmezu (by a Shankstar member). Among the younger generation, a small clique known now as Dem Africans also began to align more closely with Shankstarz and as the 2008 "killin season" in Edmonton progressed Grey Gang started to associate with Red Brick and Shankstarz and Dem Africans laid claim to the whole of N9 - or Green City.
This saw a divide between N9 - N18. Many of the DA (Dem Africans) and Shankstarz are now in their late teens and early twenties and have recruited a large number of new generation members who go by the names of YDA (Young Dem Africans) and EYG (Edmonton Young Gunnerz). The younger generations, YDA in particular, have carried on the conflict with Grey Gang (including Red Brick) and owing to their large numbers they have completely removed the Grey Gang from the strip (Fore Street), the Green Gang allegiance owns all of Edmonton north of the north circular and Grey Gang have retreated further south to Joyce Avenue and west to Empire Parade and Wilbury Way with their dwindling numbers. Another smaller un-established emerging gang threat calling themselves the Black Gang or Black Bandana Gang from Enfield Island Village in EN3 have also been on the worse end of YDA.
